A message to ALL Arlington Hts. residents:
Tonight I attended a residents' forum to discuss some of the most pressing local issues with the candidates in the Arlington Hts. village board election this Tuesday. This election, more than any in recent memory, will be of critical importance to small businesses in the downtown area. The village board has endorsed a master plan to tear down our block of building (all the way to Evergreen Plaza) to make way for high rise condominiums and 'big-box', nationally accredited retailers. If executed, this plan will spell the end for more than twenty businesses currently residing in that area.
First and foremost I want to urge everyone to vote, regardless of what political stand you may be taking. It is critical that everyone's voice is heard. It was clear to me and to most others attending tonight's forum at the Metropolis that Phil Walters and Keith Moens are offering their candidacy because of serious concerns about the fiscal and and economic future of the village and the downtown business district. They expressed their views on everything from Arlington Hts. economic development to the new village hall. These two candidates are clearly advocates for the taxpayers or our village, with sensible and pragmatic views on taxes, spending and fiscal responsibility. I hope you will take the time to understand their views before voting in this Tuesday's election. I would also urge you all to consider the candidacy of Laura Bartels, another challenger with similar views. Above all, be sure to vote so your voice is heard loud and clear.
Also, many people do not realize that you do NOT have to vote for four candidates !! Do not vote for candidates that you do not like. It's your right to elect only those candidates that have earned your trust.
